Severity - Level Three
Written by Clive Chung on 3:25 AMIf asthma rules your life to the extent that you wake up wheezing and coughing in the night and it interferes with your daily routine, you obviously have a more severe form of the condition. Your attacks may lead to your being rushed into hospital for emergency treatment and you may even be hospitalised from time to time. Following attacks, you will be given steroid tablets to bring the condition under control, and in addition to the relievers you will certainly have to take preventative treatment daily to try and keep the asthma at bay. Again, monitoring your breathing with the aid of a peak-flow meter is a must. Asthma for you is a serious condition but it doesn't have to spoil your life. If you can take control, learn to recognise what constitutes, for you, good breathing, and be aware of any decline, you will often be able to stop a bad attack from happening. Equally, if you know what to do when an emergency arises without panicking, ou may be able to take some of the fear out of the condition, reduce the stress it causes and maybe lower the severity of your asthma.
