Severity - Level Two

Although, by and large, you can get on with your life, the condition will fluctuate in severity from time to time, maybe even on a daily basis. The airways are sensitive and linings inflamed and although the flare-up, when they come, are unlikely to be so severe that you are rushed off to hospital, you will react to triggers and your asthma will surely make its presence felt when you have a cold of flu. If your asthma is at this level, you really can play a very big part in keeping it under control. you will undoubtedly have been given reliever treatments but in addition you may well need to take some form of regular preventative medication as well.

If you can discipline yourself to keep a chart and take a regular peak-flow reading of your breathing morning and night, you will be able to spot a deterioration in your condition before it gets out of control. When the reading is up, you know you are well, when it is down you can heed the warning and, perhaps, increase the preventer dose. This management plan is something that you should discuss with your doctor or asthma nurse. If you take your asthma seriously, monitor the condition and take the necessary medication, there is no reason why asthma should interfere with your life. Serious attacks should be a rare phenomenon.
